While this strategy may have a positive upside in the short term, it can be detrimental to your brand in the long run.<\/p>\n<p>As a social-media consultant,\u00c2\u00a0I\u00e2\u0080\u0099ve over time established what works for me\u00c2\u00a0and am passing my shortlist on to you to apply to your brand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/235959\" target=\"_blank\">There Are No Shortcuts to Success in Social Media<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Quality trumps quantity.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I\u00e2\u0080\u0099m not a fan of posting just to have something posted. To me, quality trumps quantity every time. Why be a blabber mouth? \u00c2\u00a0It becomes obvious you don\u00e2\u0080\u0099t have anything interesting to say.<\/p>\n<p>By flooding your social stream, on any channel, in excess screams, or \u00e2\u0080\u009cspam,\u00e2\u0080\u009d can backfire as followers don&#8217;t appreciate it.\u00c2\u00a0Regardless how wonderful you think your content may be, it\u00e2\u0080\u0099s necessary to self-edit before posting.\u00c2\u00a0 Let&#8217;s say you just attended an amazing\u00c2\u00a0social event. Rather than posting all 50 photos\u00c2\u00a0in the space of an hour,\u00c2\u00a0share just your top three\u00c2\u00a0images.\u00c2\u00a0Perhaps post the photographs that didn\u00e2\u0080\u0099t make your top 10\u00c2\u00a0list on other social channels to mix it up.\u00c2\u00a0 Don\u00e2\u0080\u0099t forget you can also post the following week to keep the hashtag alive.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Post content with distinction.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I recently attended a #VZWBuzz event that I really enjoyed, because we were treated to a private tour at the\u00c2\u00a0NFL behind the scenes. But I was with 20 other active social users distributing the same fantastic experience. \u00c2\u00a0Think about how your image and storytelling is going to stand out from the rest of the crowd\u00c2\u00a0and post accordingly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/237806\" target=\"_blank\">How to Build a Strong Social-Media Presence<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Earn engagement, don\u00e2\u0080\u0099t buy it.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Be genuine. That means don&#8217;t buy your likes or followers.<\/p>\n<p>While those followings and likes may get you invited the first time around, people will see through your shortcut eventually\u00c2\u00a0and marketers who run contests will catch on to this very quickly. \u00c2\u00a0And guess what? \u00c2\u00a0They will adjust the contest rules so all parties can participate on an equal playing field. \u00c2\u00a0Do you really want to have the reputation for being this type of influencer?<\/p>\n<p>So try earning it like the rest of us.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Are you meant for each other?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>So you want to be included on these influencers\u00e2\u0080\u0099 lists? \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Instead of messaging 10\u00c2\u00a0people to endorse you, my suggestion is to do an audit on your social channels. \u00c2\u00a0Ask yourself if what you post on your channels aligns with the influencer, brand or company.<\/p>\n<p>When I get approached to endorse a product, it has to be a match and not just about making a buck.
